Worldwide Cancer Research is a medium-sized UK charity that aims to end cancer through pioneering discovery research - in other words, research that can create entirely new knowledge and be the starting point for new lifesaving cures and treatments. Worldwide Cancer Research funds research into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world.
The charity approached us because they wanted to take a fresh look at their trusts & foundations income stream, which had never quite taken off as planned, and to develop a more strategic approach. |
We undertook an in-depth review of their trusts fundraising, including their approach to writing bids and communicating with funders, how they generated information for applications, how they presented their work on their website, and how they used their database to identify funding prospects.
After discussing our initial findings, we worked with Worldwide Cancer Research to develop a new trusts & foundations strategy, including a pipeline of potential new and repeat funders, and a long-term cultivation plan for building relationships with major strategic funders.
Finally, we helped Worldwide Cancer Research to create a job description for a new Trusts & Foundations Officer and successfully recruit for this position. While we’ve now stepped away from providing day-to-day support to the charity - the end point that we always work towards - we continue to provide periodic strategic guidance and mentoring to their fundraising team.
As well as laying the foundations for long-term success, our support has had a short-term impact too - Worldwide Cancer Research comfortably beat their previous annual trusts & foundations income figure during the first year of working with us.
We asked Worldwide Cancer Research to describe the three main benefits of working with us, and they said:
"Your support has been transformative, hugely successful and by far the best consultative approach I've experienced. I’ve already been recommending Lime Green to anyone who will listen.”

- Honest, reflective and courageous recommendations that will move our organisation forward
- Insightful, expert advice and opinion which adds to our overarching strategy and communications at all levels of the organisation
- A strategic head with the implementation understanding to ensure that, not only do we build plans, we know how to execute them too with appropriate building blocks, including motivating targets and using our CRM to create a reporting structure
